Osheen Harruthoonyan
Artist Bio
Osheen Harruthoonyan, a photographer and filmmaker, investigates memory and the deconstructive process of time in his work. Osheen had a very international upbringing in Tehran, Athens and Vancouver, eventually settling in Toronto. Over the past four years, Osheen has started to develop a photography practice as layered and multifaceted as his life experiences. Though self-taught in his photographic processes, Osheen brings an informed sophisticated eye to his compositions and techniques.
Osheen’s work addresses the disintegration of memories as a result of dementia, time lapse or circumstance — themes that are emphasized by his use of analog printing processes. He develops black and white prints, which are all created and manipulated by hand in a traditional wet darkroom. Osheen layers and manipulates both found and personal photographs to create ambiguous narratives that address the faultiness of human memory and imbue feelings of nostalgia.
